DetailVerdict is reader-supported. This page explains, in plain language, how we earn money and exactly how that does and does not affect what you read here. Transparency is part of how we keep your trust, so we would rather over-explain than leave any doubt.
The short version
Some of the links on DetailVerdict are affiliate links. If you click one of those links and make a purchase, we may earn a commission, at no additional cost to you. You pay the same price you would have paid anyway, and the retailer shares a small portion of the sale with us. These commissions help fund the products we buy and test, and they keep the site running.
What this means for our reviews
Affiliate relationships never influence our verdicts. We recommend products based on hands-on testing and genuine merit, following the process described on our How We Test page. We regularly recommend against products, including ones we could earn a commission on, when they do not earn the recommendation. Our opinions are entirely our own. They are not reviewed, approved, edited, or paid for by any brand, manufacturer, or retailer.
Programs we participate in
DetailVerdict participates in affiliate advertising programs designed to provide a means for sites to earn fees by linking to retailers and brands. These include, but are not limited to:
- The Amazon Associates Program. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases.
- Direct affiliate programs with detailing brands and retailers, which we add over time as relationships are established.
We may add or remove programs as our coverage grows. Regardless of the program, the standard is the same: the link never changes the verdict.
Sponsored content and free products
From time to time we may be offered products at no charge for evaluation, and on occasion we may publish content in partnership with a brand. When that happens, we will clearly and prominently disclose it within the relevant article. Receiving a product for free, or being compensated for a piece of content, never guarantees a positive review. A product earns its verdict on the bench, the same as everything else.
Why we are upfront about this
Plenty of sites bury their affiliate relationships or hope you do not notice them. We take the opposite approach, because the entire value of DetailVerdict rests on you being able to trust what we say. If we ever recommend something, you should be confident it is because it genuinely performed, not because of a payout.
